Today, I have found for you a bunch of great headers! They range from clever css to fantastic flash. I hope they inspire you to redesign your headers and give ideas with the rest of you sites.
Todd Adams the creator of 61Pixels has brought his site alive with great textures and a brick style header and footer. His header is exceptionally great, using a Gothic typeface, a stunning menu (with great hover images) and a bright-ish photo, which gives depth to the whole header.

When I first viewed I thought it’s nothing special but when you browse through the site, it becomes apparent that this is no ordinary design. The box containing the text acts as a magnifier, and enlarges the rainbow gradient as you scroll through the various links. Very creative and very appealing.

When visiting this site you’re instantly greeted with a very stylish graphic and a great slogan. With great use of transparency and an outstanding typeface this header definitely lured me further down the page.

I love how Cosmic Diary has produced a desk type header with various things on the table and others taped to the wall. It gives a very warm welcome to the site and you immediately feel like hovering your mouse over the various objects, and to your delight tooltips emerge linking you to different pages of the site.

Possibly the most creative header I have seen. Devthought really shows off what mootools can do here. It has used various images to simulate the different types of weather. I love the cartoony style. With more interaction I believe it could get users hooked and force them to look through the site to find more creativity.

On first glance you see that Digimurai means business as they show off their graphical skills with a great little mascot. The menu is bold and rich as is the logo. The header introduces the style and is so appealing it drives people to browse the site further.

Webstaze has a very creative header as it actually has four headers. One for each Season. As you guessed it, it displays the header of the current season we are in. A very innovative idea. With the great photography used in each and the little touches on the links and latest designs section, it draws you down to look at the rest of the site.

Now the flash animation may not be considered ‘apart of the header’ but I believe it plays a vital part in drawing in the readers and giving a good first impression. The introduction to the flash animation definitely catches your eye and so you continue to watch. When you have stared at it for a while you can’t help but to see what the rest of the site is like.

I thought Devthought was good but after seeing this I thought it can’t get anymore creative then this. A great flash animation greets you and you can’t help but to stare at the little cute cows, but if you click the wikim.oo or english page link, the header turns into a great little game! Great idea and great fun!

On first impression Sergej’s header seem ‘okay’ and a nice gradient and logo, but it’s only when you hover your mouse over the header are that you notice you can manipulate the gradient by moving the light source. I very clever idea which is a nice touch.

ThinkDesign is texture crazy. When you first visit the site you are overcome with three amazing textures. You have the denim type material with great stitching followed by a nice wood and paper texture. You rarely see so many textures on first glance on other sites. I particular like the blending of the logo, if Nick could also do this with the menu I think the header would be perfect!

I love this header a lot. What I like about it is the header contains so much information but remains uncluttered and a pleasure to look out. We instantly know what he looks like, that he has been working since 1983, what he is twittering and if he is available for work. Great header, great design!

This is a little fun one. Each time you visit overit you are greeted with a different flash animation that you can’t help but to stare at. Some are actually quite impressive.
I hope you enjoyed this article. Feel free to digg it and stumble upon etc. Comments are more than welcome.

@Will yup
@Dimo You’re more than welcome
A header can really make a break a site, you got that 2-3 seconds to grab them by the …. so you need a good header or you won`t score the goal
